Yup. He's the bishop's second counselor at the moment. His
brother-in-law is the bishop incidentally. Actually, I've been meaning
to write up a blog entry about the interesting experience I had this
past RubyConf where I learned all this. Here's the gist of it:
We took Matz (at his request) to sacrament meeting the Sunday of
RubyConf. During the meeting, Matz noticed that in the program, a
missionary was mentioned that had served in his ward in Japan. Turns
out the bishop's son had recently served in Matz area, in fact there
was a picture in the bishop's office that was taken at a baptism in
Matz area. In the picture was Matz' wife and kids. Matz even thinks
maybe he was the one that took the picture! Anyways, the bishop's wife
invited us over to their place for dinner, so after the RubyConf talks
that day, we spend a good part of the evening at their house.
Afterwards, we took Matz to see the San Diego temple, of which he took
several impressive pictures.
Matz describes the experience in a couple of his blog entries (in Japanese):

Search for 'Daniel' to find the entries, then copy and paste the text
into babelfish (or google translate, or whatever) to get an english
translatation.
Needless to say, I was humbled by the experience.
