Very much agree.
In thinking about stuff before I posted about this issue, what concerned 
me was that someone could create a new link on the wiki very easily:
"Latest Plugin!!!! Kills all spam !!! Works everytime !! Dead easy to 
use !!!" and then people will - even if it's there for a short time, 
download whatever is there and install it.

I don't think we should have a 'Latest plugin' noted on the wiki, nor 
should we have a 'Best' - we should just list them, with new ones being 
appended to the bottom of each list.

Getting other people to follow your example might be tricky though 
Kitten .. but hopefully the sticky in the forums will provide enough 
information over time, along with the inevitable specific posts for a 
plugin.
