Matt,
It is awesome that the page be author-updatable, but the wiki is
author-updatable too, and the problem seems to be that plugin authors
are reluctant to do the editing/adding themselves, so it might be useful
to have at least a couple of people in charge of keeping particular
sections updated, and there could be a mail address, like
plugins at wordpress.org where authors of new plugins could send a mail
with a zip file, or the plugin, and the person in charge could do the
updating. It will be easy enough to advertise the fact that all plugin
authors have to mail the address to notify wordpress-at-large of their
new plugin by mailing at this address.
Just like you, and the other devs, are in charge of seeing that the
wordpress source is up to date and all the fixes/changes submitted by
everyone, including the devs and other end users are committed to the
cvs, there should be someone with the responsibility to see that
particular sections are always up to date and maintained properly. In
other words, if a plugin author does not want to deal with learning to
use a new system (the wiki/wordpress-proposed-cms) and with updating a
page there, then the utility of that particular central resource must
not suffer.
One reason I expect the new TemplateTags page on the new wiki to be
useful is because it is, so far, consistent in style, which is an
after-effect most of it having been created by one person.
This is just my feedback, feel free to think about this and send in
comments :)
Carthik.
