Arthur, I think you're misunderstanding the issue. There's nothing
wrong with using alpha versions. There's no "holier-than-you"
attitude. But what we see (and what Podz deals with daily) are a
number of users who
a) don't know what alpha software means
b) see that v. 1.3 is available and has this or that cool-new-feature
c) download a nighly
d) complain when something doesn't work because they expect everything to work
e) are then directed to cvs
f) can't keep up with upgrades, bugfixes etc...
g) come to think that WP is crap, vent their frustration, don't know
how to ask questions efficiently, don't know which version they have,
are hard to provide help for.

Well, everyone who uses and understands cvs _now_ was at one point
ignorant of it. So of course everyone can use WP at their first foray
into using alpha software. It is for me. But I don't expect the same
level of support, and don't think it's anyone else's job to fix things
for me (even though I'll ask politely how sth can be fixed).

Well said.
