Scott, I am familiar with those arguments; there are just as many 
against using Creative Commons, the public domain, etc.
It's always a matter of choosing the lesser of evils...in this case, the 
GFDL. :)  The primary objections to the GFDL have to do with front/back 
covers, invariant texts, etc, all of which are eliminated in the 
specific wording (authorized by the GFDL) chosen for the 
copyright/license statement listed in the Docs guidelines.
