In order for that to happen, we'll need complete _working_ examples of 
lots of different modification options.  Something along the lines of
    http://www.skippy.net/wp_test/customize.html
but much more thorough.

The great thing about WP being mostly self-contained in index.php is 
that we can easily create a customization walk-through using multiple 
revisions to index.php (index_step1.php, index_step2.php) so that people 
can follow along and easily see the progression of changes.

I'm very interested in helping out, and will contribute what I can.
