I don't think the idea is to revise *all* the wiki pages and port them 
over.  Some, by their nature, are better served by remaining on the wiki 
where they can be updated and maintained more easily (such as the list 
of hacks or CSS resources).

Christian, we discussed this a bit in our private correspondence 
(doesn't that sound so pleasantly 19th century? :))  and believe me, I 
completely agree with the need for a license.  I've been researching 
this for a long time, off and on (since it first came up many moons ago) 
and have recently delved back into it, with the intent of both 
attempting to find a solution for the docs team as well as writing a 
longer article about copyright and licensing issues for blogs.  To cut 
to the chase, I think either the Gnu Free Documentation License or one 
of the Creative Commons licenses is the way to go (and I lean towards 
the GFDL).  Simply dumping everything into the public domain is not a 
satisfactory solution, in my opintion.
