Along with Carthik's points, I think that if you're upgrading from a 
version prior to 1.0, there will be issues such as potentially hacked 
files (this was prior to the myhacks.php), possibility of same hacks not 
working in later versions, etc. (And people are mighty attached to their 
hacks, it seems.)

Also, pre-1.0 users *can* delete old files, since many of those still 
contained the old b2- prefix, and those files will be just sitting there 
taking up space.

I think an import-MT howto would be awesome.  As for waiting until 1.2, 
my suggestion is: don't.  I've wasted a lot of time in the past few 
months with docs waiting for a stable release,  when that wasn't really 
necessary.  Most users are using 1.0/.0.1-.0.2.  There are some still 
using .72 (and earlier!)  I think even if 1.2 were released tomorrow, 
there's a period of time before the majority of users will make the 
upgrade.  Users wants stuff now.

Do you prefer Cathik or 2fargon? :)
